Note: Political boundaries have moved dramatically over the last
200 to 300 years. Many countries did not exist until modern times while others
came and went by the hand of political expediency. Many areas of Eastern
Europe contained sizable German communities for several hundred years. Researchers
should take time to familiarize themselves with these historical changes
so that they can cross-check for information between countries in various
time periods.
