The Name "KUBE"

Our familiy name is of Slavish origin. The name derives from

qoute: Jacob or Jacobus (KUBE = Jeckel) and carries the christian meaning of "protected by God" as well as in hebrew "Next-Born". unquote:

From the earliest original name also other surnames have been formed such as Kubiak, Kubick and Kuba. A possible reason may be in the fact that in particular in the 15th to 17th century all records have been done by handwriting. Thus many church writers who were to keep records have been writing the names as they believed to understand and hear or judged on own merits when completing records. Some of the writers were supposingly shorten names as well, which in time led to kind of different but related surnames. However, all such  families with that surname (or close relation) can also be regarded as close part of the "KUBE" lines.

Furthermore, the writing of the name also changed in Cuba and Cube especially with the emigrations in the 18th and 19th. The original pronunciation of our surname is COO (like in cool) and BE (like in Betty), i.e. COO+BE = KUBE. The pronunciation as Kubie (like in Barbie) would be lesser appropriate.
